The Making Of / Photographer Bruce Gilden – Black Country Faces / Multistory
In 2013, Multistory commissioned American photographer Bruce Gilden to continue his Face series in the Black Country, where he focused on ‘the left behind’; the ‘invisible people’ who are often on the periphery, under-represented and marginalised.
Working in the tradition of street photography, Bruce took close-up portraits on the streets of West Bromwich, Dudley and Wolverhampton from 2013 to 2014, to make a body of work that was exhibited as Black Country Faces at the Barbican’s ‘Strange and Familiar’ exhibition in Summer 2016.
This project was commissioned by Multistory who are supported by Sandwell Council and Arts Council England.
